Ahlam Yassin, M. Ed.
As a passionate high school history teacher and debate coach, I am dedicated to shaping the minds of our future leaders. With a focus on global education, I am an alumni of the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms, the JerseyCAN Teacher Leader Advocacy fellowships and have served as a United States Youth Ambassador adult mentor.

My teaching philosophy is centered on inclusive and equitable learning environments, where students can develop critical thinking skills and broaden their perspectives. The combination of all of these experiences hopes to inspire students to think critically and re-imagine a better world.

I enjoy creating spaces were students and adults are able to share in important truths, while examining text critically. I have a proven track record of creating a warm community atmosphere in and out of the classroom, without compromising on quality output.

This is the TEDxYouth@ATHS event, which I coordinated along with student leaders.

My tenure as a high school educator has allowed me to revise and create curriculum, examine various in-classroom strategies to help students engage, learn and enjoy the process. I’ve served as lead coordinator for an accreditation process, began debate clubs to empower students in helping them find their voice. I’ve served on committees to address the need of school communities in private and public settings. I have traveled the world as a global educator in pursuit of learning from our global neighbors and broadening my students perspectives. Education is a service field that is demanding but just as it is demanding, it nourishes my spirit. Working with young people is one of the joys and honors of my life.

Testimonials:
“I highly recommend Ahlam for your curriculum needs! In Spring 2024, she supported NJ LEEP in revising our Middle School (grades 6–8) ELA offerings for both our Summer and Saturday programming. The final product is thoughtfully constructed in adherence with state curriculum standards and curated to meet NJ LEEP’s programmatic needs and goals. All materials are provided, including step-by-step lesson plans.
Ahlam is a great communicator, ensuring that I was aware of where she was each step of the process. We were able to successfully collaborate on any adjustments that needed to be made to our timeline. She is extremely organized, detail-oriented, and creative in all work she produces, while staying open to feedback.
Ahlam endeavors to keep student interests, identities, lived experiences, and needs at the forefront of all of her work. Her passion for delivering high-quality educational experiences for students of all backgrounds shines through in everything she does. Working with Ahlam is a joy and a privilege!”

We had the pleasure of hosting Mrs. Ahlam Yassin recently at the International Museum of Muslim Cultures, America’s First Muslim Museum, in Jackson, Mississippi. She captivated our audience as a speaker for our museum’s ancillary program on the Sultanate of Oman alongside the photography exhibit by the award-winning artist Basel Almisshal. Mrs. Yassin’s talk vividly detailed her immersive experiences traveling through Oman as a teacher, bringing back a wealth of knowledge and cultural insights to share with her students. Her stories not only highlighted the rich heritage, history and stunning landscapes of Oman but also demonstrated her dedication to global education and fostering a deeper understanding of diverse cultures among her students. Mrs. Yassin’s ability to connect her travel experiences with educational outcomes makes her an invaluable asset to any program seeking to inspire and educate through real-world experiences.

Ahlam participated in the 2023 United States Youth Ambassadors Program as an Adult Mentor. She was assigned to the Brazil program. Ahlam was a wonderful mentor during the travel program and during the Community Service Project segment as well. She has maintained regular contact with the students, provided great feedback and suggestions from an adult mentor perspective, and she has continued to be a great support system for the students during the implementation of the community service project. I couldn’t have asked for a better adult mentor. Ahlam is a dependable, vocal, and responsible individual with a great work ethic!
