[Sustainable] Art in Salvador de Bahia

One of the key takeaways from traveling to a country with no knowledge of the verbal language is that the modes of expression and communication are vast. So often when someone couldn’t find the words to express their thoughts, or we were stuck in a communication barrier, we communicated via facial expressions, proximity in stance which encapsulates in an overall energy.

One of the most beautiful and bittersweet experiences of travel is experiencing art in unexpected places. In Salvador de Bahia, there was street art everywhere – and the architecture held imperial stories of their own.

Brilliant artwork that is setup against a merge of natural beauty and structures that carry so much history is an ethereal experience.

Art can be an expression of love, hope, anger, grief and an outlet for healing. It is a personal venture for the artist and through the journey moves something within us. That’s the point. In essence, art can soften our hearts and move us to action – or simply reflection.

Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” Thomas Merton, No Man is an Island
